Tips For Filing Your Taxes To Get A Fast Refund

Most of us are already planning on what to do with our tax refund. Vacation… Spa Day… New shoes… When we receive some extra money, the options are endless.

So now that you’re getting ready to file your taxes, you might be wondering what you need to do to ensure you’ll get a fast refund.

The first, and most important step, is to gather your records. You should collect and coordinate all of your year-end income and expenses documents before filing your 2021 tax return to avoid any delays that can slow down the process.

Tax attorney Mary King of the Law Office of Mary E King PL offers some advice.

“Early preparation will help you file a complete and accurate tax return. It is important to have the correct social security numbers of everyone listed on your paperwork. While you might have this information memorized, it is wise to double check for accuracy as even one wrong number will cause processing delays.”

Speaking of numbers, King further advises to make sure you have your correct bank account and routing numbers, as you will need these for direct deposit refunds, which is the fastest way for you to get your money and avoid the check getting lost in the mail, stolen, or returned to the IRS as undeliverable.

Here is a list of some of the documents you will need to file your tax returns properly:

– W-2 forms from employers

– 1099 forms (from any and all sources of income)

– 1095-A forms (for the Health Insurance Marketplace)

– Letter 6419 (your 2021 Total Advance Child Tax Credit Payments)

– Letter 6475 (your 2021 Economic Impact Payment)

You should receive these documents by mail starting in January or you can usually find them online. Review them carefully, as any misinformation can impact your refund.

If you have any questions about filing your tax return properly and your tax refund, you should contact a qualified tax attorney such as Mary King.

The Law Office of Mary E. King is available to help you with any tax issues, so don’t hesitate to get the help you need.
