I got divorced and my divorce decree ways that my ex is liable for the tax debt. Why is the IRS still coming after me?

The IRS can pursue you for taxes that your spouse owed during your marriage if you filed married filing jointly. After your divorce, if your divorce decree states that you’re not liable for these taxes and that your ex will pay the taxes, the IRS will still find that you are a liable party since you filed a married filing joint return.
